Oliver Pilkington is a Senior Consultant at eftec. He joined eftec as a Researcher in September 2019, having spent Summer 2018 as an intern. He is the first natural scientist to join the team and will continue to contribute to chemicals projects on data collection and validation, analysis, reporting, and presentation to key stakeholders.
Oliver's work focuses on supporting industry actors and government agencies through socio-economic analyses of chemicals legislations proposed at the European and global level. He has experience developing surveys and conducting interviews in addition to overseeing stakeholder consultations.
His work has related to various REACH restriction processes and harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) proposals at EU level. This has included projects on EU-wide binding occupational exposure limits (BOELs) and regulatory management option analyses (RMOAs). Furthermore, he has provided economic support which fed into the US Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and helped prepare a restriction proposal for the Stockholm Convention on POPs. Recently, he has been involved in the preparation of EU REACH and UK HSE Application for Authorisations (AfAs).
Oliver holds an MSci (First Class Hons.) in Natural Sciences from the University in East Anglia with specialisms in Chemistry and Environmental Science. He studied modules such as Environmental Economics, Environmental Pollution and Advanced Laboratory. His Masters dissertation, in collaboration with Anglian Water, analysed microplastic pollution in the East of England’s tap water. This study involved developing a novel analytical method of (dye) staining microplastics in tap water, interviewing Anglian Water employees regarding their views on microplastic pollution, and research into water treatment works.
