About the project

The purpose of this project was to identify and measure the wider (non-carbon) social, environmental and commercial benefits of the Woodland Carbon Code (WCC) projects in England, Wales and Scotland.  This study developed, through the use of case studies, a method for assessing the full benefits of individual projects under the WCC and explored ways of incorporating the measurement and management of the value of the wider benefits into the WCC itself. The valuation of recreation was demonstrated by piloting the ORVAL tool developed for Defra by the University of Exeter.
